When Is the KC Air Show 2022

The Garmin KC Air Show will take place on Saturday, September 3rd, and Sunday, September 4th, 2022.

Where is the air show?

The 2022 Garmin KC Air Show will be at the picturesque New Century AirCenter New Century, Kansas.

How do we get there?

The Garmin KC Air Show will provide multiple options to choose from that are posted on our website. Guests will not be allowed to drive up to or park at the airport due to limited access and parking availability. No vehicle access will be allowed unless accompanied by a pre-purchased premium parking ticket.

Is parking free?

General parking is designated in Garmin KC Air Show parking lots, including accessible parking, which is included in the price of your ticket. Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Garmin KC Air Show, its sponsors, and the Johnson County Airport Commission are not responsible for loss, damage or theft of vehicles or personal items; these entities are also not responsible for towing or removal of improperly parked or incapacitated vehicles. Please do not leave valuables in your vehicle.

What about accessible parking?

Accessible parking for guests with disabilities is available at designated Garmin KC Air Show parking areas. Guests must have their state-issued tag or placard visible. There is NO available accessible parking on-site at the airport.

All Ride KC Johnson County Transit vehicles (Blue/Gray bus) are equipped with ADA Accessibility.

Is paid premium parking available?

Limited “Premium” parking for the Garmin KC Air Show is currently available under the premium parking section on the tickets page. Availability of premium parking is limited and expected to sell out prior to the show. All premium parking (while quantities last) must be purchased prior to the show. No “day of” premium parking may be purchased.

What time does the show start?

The gates will open at approximately 9:00 a.m. on both show days, September 3rd and September 4th. Gates will close at approximately 5:00 p.m. each day. Aerial performances are scheduled to start at approximately 10:00 a.m. both days.

Free parking options open and shuttle rides begin at 7:45 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Who is scheduled to perform at the 2022 KC Air Show?

On September 3-4, 2022, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are scheduled to take to the skies to headline the Garmin KC Air Show. Additionally, a who’s who of military and civilian performers, the Aeroshell Formation Team, Red Bull Team, Michael Goulian, Patty Wagstaff, Kevin Coleman, Bill Stein, Jim Pietz, Jeff Boerboon and the YAK 110, Rob Holland, Red Tails P-51 Mustang, Aftershock Jet Truck and many, many more.

Voted the Best Air Show in 2019 by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the KC Air Show team is working to produce the best air show experience in the country while directing net proceeds from the air show into aviation-focused STEM educational programs for school-aged children in the Kansas City area.

Is the show the same both Saturday and Sunday?

The Garmin KC Air Show schedule is expected to be the same on both days. There may be some variations depending on special aircraft, which may make only a one-day-fly-by appearance but the general performance schedule of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds is planned to be the same on both days. Schedules and acts are subject to change without notice due to mechanical and/or other conditions. Times of flight for each performer will not be posted due to security issues.

Do I need tickets? What tickets are available?

All admissions to the Garmin KC Air Show will require a ticket. Several ticket options and pricing levels are available based on when they are purchased and applicable discounts. The Garmin KC Air Show with The Thunderbirds and the enormity of civilian performers WILL SELL OUT. ALL tickets will need to be purchased prior to the show Please check our website or social media for ticket availability.

General Admission

These tickets are available as single-day admission, Saturday, September 3rd or Sunday, September 4th. They include access to the Garmin KC Air Show and all scheduled performances. You will be able to purchase food, drinks, merchandise, and souvenirs from the various Garmin KC Air Show vendors and retailers on-site.

Flight Line Club, Gold Club, and Platinum Tickets

These tickets are single-day admission, either Saturday, September 3rd or Sunday, September 4th, and will gain you admission into the 2022 Garmin KC Air Show along with special access to the designated seating area.

  • The Flight Line Club is box seating while the Gold Club includes box seating and access to food and beverage. The Flight Line Club and the Gold Club will definitely sell out, so don’t wait, get tickets early.
  • The Platinum Ticket is the most premium ticket available and includes all the benefits of the Gold Club plus special Elite Parking directly across from the entrance gate. Please see ticket options for a full description of each level.
Where can I purchase tickets?

Advance tickets can be purchased online from our website. Click here for more details. While day-of show tickets may be available, walk-up tickets are limited. We encourage advance purchase to ensure the day you want to attend is available. Please check our website or social media if planning a day-of show ticket purchase.

Do you offer any military or veteran discounts?

Active duty military with a government-issued ID will receive free admission at the gate. Veterans with ID (VHIC, VIC, VCC, Veteran’s designation on state-issued driver’s license, etc.) will receive the discounted ticket price of $40 at the gate.

Are children free?

Please go to the tickets page for a complete list of tickets and prices. Children 5 & under are FREE for general admission seating. Flight Line Club and Gold Club tickets have specific age requirements.

Do I need to print my tickets?

You may either print your tickets at home or display your tickets on your smartphone for entry to the Garmin KC Air Show. Tickets must be scanned to enter the Garmin KC Air Show. The ticket scanners at the gate can scan printed tickets or tickets on your phone. Be sure to have your tickets ready to go before you get to the gates.

I can't find my tickets.

Tickets purchased in advance are sent to the email address you entered upon your purchase. You may need to check any junk or spam folders you have just in case. If you need your tickets resent to you, please go to

What if it rains?

The Garmin KC Air Show is a rain or shine event. Tickets are for the 2022 Garmin KC Air Show, not for a specific performer. Unfortunately, there are no refunds, regardless of the weather. As the show is rain or shine, performers can adjust their flying to various weather conditions. Tickets are day specific and cannot be exchanged for another day.

Can I bring my pet?

While we love pets, pets are NOT allowed at the KC Air Show 2022 other than service animals. The temperatures on the tarmac area can easily reach over 100 degrees and the loud noises of planes and pyrotechnics can injure your animal’s hearing. Please leave your pet(s) at home and DO NOT leave your pet(s) in vehicles.

Will there be shade?

Air shows are held under an open sky to allow for premium viewing opportunities. Please bring hats, sunglasses, and non-aerosol sunscreen. You may also bring a small personal umbrella and chair. No large umbrellas, tents, or canopies allowed. Umbrellas will not be allowed in the Premium Seating areas. Limited shade may be available under the wings of certain aircraft.

Can I leave to go to my car and come back?

For security purposes and general event logistics, re-entry will NOT be allowed once you have exited the air show.

Can I fly in to the KC Air Show 2022?

You may fly in to KIXD arriving no later than 08:45 a.m. either Saturday or Sunday. The New Century AirCenter has limited available parking. It is highly recommended you make advance arrangements with Advanced Aviation as ramp space will be limited. You may pre-purchase your Garmin KC Air Show tickets online in advance. Tickets will cost more on the day of the show.

What am I allowed to bring?

To provide a safer environment for the public and to significantly expedite attendee entry into the air show, the Garmin KC Air Show has adopted a bag policy, similar to that of the NFL, which limits the size and type of bag that can be brought into the event. Guests are strongly encouraged not to bring any type of bag though we understand families will be traveling with small children and certain items may be necessary. Those attending the show with clear bags or NO bags will have expedited access to the Garmin KC Air Show.


Below is an outline of what is permissible:

  • 16” x 16” x 8” or smaller clear plastic bag, with or without a handle or strap
  • Bags that do not exceed 16” x 16” x 8” will be allowed to the Garmin KC Air Show after a thorough inspection
  • Purses that do not exceed 16″ x 16″ x 8″ will be allowed to the Garmin KC Air Show after a thorough inspection
  • Coolers, Large Backpacks or Bags that exceed 16″ x 16″ x 8″ are prohibited (all outside food and beverage is prohibited)
  • An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection

The following items are also allowed:

  • Folding or Camping Chairs will be allowed to the Garmin KC Air Show after a thorough inspection
  • Soft-sided wagons
  • Binoculars
  • Wheelchairs and motorized scooters (Note: There is no place to plug in and recharge)
  • Small soft-sided coolers for medical purposes or baby items only
  • Small, personal umbrellas (umbrellas are not allowed inside the Premium Seating areas)
  • Cameras and Camera Bags will be allowed to the Garmin KC Air Show after a thorough inspection
  • Blanket to sit on
  • Water bottle (factory sealed/unopened 1-liter or smaller bottle, one per person)

ALL BAGS AND ITEMS ARE SUBJECT TO SEARCH AT ANY TIME. The Garmin KC Air Show reserves the right to modify this list at any time.

What items are prohibited?

Heightened security policies have been established by the Garmin KC Air Show. We would like to remind you that these enhanced security measures are for your safety. We understand that this may be an added inconvenience, however, due to the nature of current world events, we feel they are necessary. The following items are prohibited:

  • Bags/purses in excess of 16” x 16” x 8” (all bags/purses will be thoroughly inspected)
  • Backpacks in excess of 16” x 16” x 8” (all backpacks will be thoroughly inspected)
  • Camera bags in excess of 16″ x 16″ x 8″ (all cameras and camera bags will be thoroughly inspected)
  • All outside food and beverage (except one factory sealed 1-liter or smaller bottle, per person allowed)
  • Weapons/fireworks of any kind (including all guns and pocket knives, no exceptions)
  • Items that could be projectiles
  • Banners or flags with sticks in them
  • Bullhorns/air-horns/cowbells (or other noise makers deemed by event staff to be unacceptable)
  • Lasers or laser pens/pointers
  • Hard-sided coolers of any kind
  • Anything that can obstruct a fan’s view
  • Wrapped presents and/or gifts of any kind
  • Pets or animals not documented as service dogs
  • Aerosol cans (e.g. sunscreen, hairspray, mace, etc.)
  • Toy guns or toy knives
  • Beach balls or other inflatables
  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (DRONES)
  • Cigarettes and e-cigarettes.

If any of the above items are discovered at our gates, our security staff members will ask that you return these items to your vehicle or be thrown away. Prohibited items will not be stored at the gates or guest services.

Can I bring my drone?

As indicated above, the Garmin KC Air Show is a NO DRONE ZONE. No drones of any kind will be allowed.

Can I volunteer for the air show?

Thank you for your interest in volunteering! Volunteer opportunities for the Garmin KC Air Show will be available soon. The Garmin KC Air Show website and our social media channels will indicate when volunteer signups are live.

Is there a lost and found?

There will be very strict security before, during, and after the Garmin KC Air Show. In the event you become separated from your child please go to the First Aid Booth, or ask a Garmin KC Air Show volunteer for assistance. For Lost and Found items, the Garmin KC Air Show will have a record of all found items approximately 3 days after the event. Email us at if you are looking for a Lost & Found item.

Do I need ear protection?

It is recommended to use ear plugs to reduce the noise levels for some performers.

Is it all seating or standing room only?

For general admission (GA), it is standing room as available on the ramp area. You may bring your own lawn/folding chairs or blankets. Premium seating is available at an increased charge over GA. Will there be ATMs on-site?

The Garmin KC Air Show will have designated ATMs on-site supplied by our Official Air Show Bank – Citizens Bank and Trust for attendee use.

Can I get a refund or exchange?

All sales are final. Garmin KC Air Show is a rain or shine event. A ticket is for the Garmin KC Air Show, not for a specific performer. Unfortunately, there are no refunds, regardless of the weather.

First aid stations will be set up for minor medical emergencies (cuts/bruises). There will also be Johnson Country Fire Department paramedics and KC Medical paramedics present should advanced life support be needed.
